Changes to Veterinary Prescription Rules
At Buyrite Solutions , we remain fully committed to supporting our members with the correct remedies for antiparasitic control, including dosing products, pour-ons, and injections that you’ve come to rely on.
From 1 December 2025, all antiparasitic remedies (such as wormers, fluke treatments, and fly-control products) will require a veterinary prescription before they can be purchased.
Why Is This Change Happening?
This update follows new legislation at both EU and national level. In September 2024, the Veterinary Medicinal Products Regulation (SI No. 462/2024) was signed into Irish law, upgrading antiparasitics to prescription-only status.
The Veterinary Medicinal Products Regulations 2024 require that antiparasitic medicines for food-producing animals are only supplied following a proper assessment and veterinary prescription.
What It Means for You
This new system will affect farmers, vets, and licensed merchants.
At Buyrite Solutions, we are working closely with our partners to ensure you continue receiving the best advice, service, and support throughout the transition.
From 1 December 2025, all antiparasitic purchases will be handled by our in-house “Responsible Persons” who are fully trained and qualified to talk to our members on all their dosing requirements.
They will assist you in completing a short questionnaire, which will then be reviewed by the vet covering your area. The vet will issue the prescription if required, we will be introducing our team of VETs in coming weeks allowing us to provide nationwide.
Please note there may be a brief interval between questionnaire completion and product dispensing to allow for proper assessment.
We also continue to offer on-site faecal egg-count testing — available to all customers. You can submit dung samples from your stock, and our team will help determine the most suitable treatment based on actual parasite burden.
Your 3-Step Buyrite Process (from 1 December 2025)
- Step 1: Speak with a Buyrite “Responsible Person” and complete a short antiparasitic questionnaire.
- Step 2: The completed form is sent to our vet in your area for review an approval of prescription (if needed).
- Step 3: Once approved, your product will be dispensed directly to your farm.
Our Ongoing Commitment
We thank all our customers for their cooperation as these changes come into effect. Our focus remains on delivering trusted products, expert advice, and excellent service to support your herd’s health and performance.
